Hi Em,
I would go to Quito for learning Spanish because you have the best choices what Spanish schools are concerned. I recommend the following Spanish school where I studied Spanish for a while, and the school is also recommended by the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador. The name is "Guayasamin Spanish School". Their website is: www.guayasaminschool.com
Have a great time in Ecuador, you'll love it.
If I were to choose one of the three cities you listed, I would choose Cuenca hands down. It has all the conveniences of living in the US, etc. Plus it has the best climate...spring-like with almost daily afternoon rain. It is also culturally rich and set in a beautiful valley just outside the Cajas National Park.
My second choice would be Quito. It has all of the above mentioned for Cuenca, but is bigger and thus more congested with traffic and pollution.
do not go to ecuador . if the world had piles they would be there
i have researched and discovered that Ecuador, Columbia and Peru are very good places to go and learn Spanish as they are the most clear and slowly spoken.
I have decided on ecuador, mainly for the climate! but also because many people online have mentioned many good places not to mention its very cheap!
I guess I've kind of narrowed it down to the main cities: cuenca, quito and guayaquil.
this is a very specific question but if anyone has any advice or recommendations for these places, or even ecuador or south america itself!
i would like to go out there and study (and hopefully pick up) the spanish language and live somewhere vibrant and culturally rich, with nice things to do and nice scenery.
this is not a temporary thing, 4 or 5 months maximum!
any advice and opinions are appreciated, thanks!
