Florianopolis is south.
If u are interested in black brazilian people i would recomend : Salvador, Fortaleza or Recife.
Puntarenas is a large province and a city, so it would be helpful to know exactly where you are studying. That said, the Afro-Costa Rican population is concentrated on the country's Atlantic coast and Puntarenas is on the Pacific side. Florianopolis is located in Southern Brazil and the Afro-Brazilian populaton is concentrated in the North/Northeast. I don't know much about the city's population but it probably has a larger concentration of persons of African descent than Puntarenas-- given the ethnic composition of Brazil as a whole.
First of all, don't forget about Romanian and Catalan.
Secondly, if you are really interested in these languages, you might want to switch to a Romance Language major and go into language education.
I think Luxembourg and Switzerland have good mixes of these languages (except Spanish), but if you want to meet black people, Brazil is the way to go.
I'm Costa Rican.. I do not speak english :/
I'm an African American male who is studying History/Social Studies Education with a minor in Spanish and have the opportunity to study abroad in one of these countries this summer. My choices are Florianopolis, Brazil and Puntarenas, Costa Rica. They are both coastal areas of their countries which makes it an even more harder choice.
I am very interested in the BLACK latin American population that comes from African slaves and I heard that Both Brazil and Costa Rica have a huge population of those people. Even though I am minoring in Spanish I still would like to become fluent in ALL the romance languages. Including Spanish, Italian, Brazilian AND European Portuguese as well as French. I would like to know which country would best fit my interests.
