If you are going to see ruins, you need to go to either Guatemala or Honduras both of which are extremely dangerous countries. Of the two avoid Honduras if you are on a budget and be very careful in Guatemala--never travel at night, spend as little time as possible in the capital and pay a little for more secure situations. Every country in the region has something to offer. I would definitely spend time in Nicaragua and Costa Rica and if you have time you could check out Panama and El Salvador (in that order).
I would say:
Mexico
Guatema and
Costa Rica
I think those 3 countries are different and typical.
I saw Mexico and I live now in Costa Rica.
Have a really good trip!
I like Bahamas and Dominican Republic! They both are very beautiful! I also consider Costa Rica!
Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic are my favorites.
I'm planning on going on a backpacking trip in Central America about a year from now. I'm thinking of staying about 3 or 4 months, but I need to decide which countries I want to see the most, as I don't want to rush through. Or is this time period enough to see all of Central America's countries without feeling like a skipped through too quickly?
I want to see beaches, ruins, temples, waterfalls, the jungle... pretty much anything.
So tell me, which countries in Central America should I visit?
