I've never known anyone actually taken in for it.Never heard of a tourist arrested for it. Coke on occasion, if it's a relatively large amount(over an 8 ball).
You'll here about the big busts but they don't fool with some hippie like me with a buzz and a bong in the front seat....unless they like the bong. Then they'll steal it along with the weed they confiscate. You'll see them an hour later at the fried chicken joint laughing their heads off.I had two tell me my plants needed potassium. No, marijuana is illegal in Costa Rica. However, it seems many people do smoke it and the law is rarely enforced. If you do decide to smoke it while there, just make sure you buy it when you get there and you don't bring any of it home with you..***:D
It s highly illegal but laws are inconsistently enforced leading some to believe that it is permitted which leads (for some) to very serious legal problems.
It is illegal and they will try top shake you down for a bribe or take it and smoke it.
