This is the rainy season, so expect rain just about every day. However, it doesn't rain all day. At least not very often. Most days, it will be nice until about midday. Then the rain starts. It's usually not a hard rain, but it can be. And it will rain anywhere from a half hour to a few hours (until mid to late afternoon).
2 things to note:
1. The mornings are very nice. The sun is out early in CR and it's much stronger than the US (I think it's due to the proximity to the equator). So tanning and beach can be done in the morning. Most organized tours/activities also get out very early (around 6-7am).
2. It starts to get dark early in CR, maybe 5:30-6pm. So if you don't get to do something in the morning, chances are that it will be dark (or darkening) when the rain stops. Get up early and do as much as you can early.
Tip: Bring a good umbrella and a light wind breaker/rain jacket.
Guanacaste is the best part of CR. The beaches in Flamingo and Samara/Nosara are pretty nice. White sand, none of that smelly black sand (I can't get used to that smell). This time of year the beaches won't be crowded, it's like being in a private beach sometimes.

(wear light clothes, and sandals) and humid! it doesnt rain for hours and hours its on and off and as one of the answerers said guanacaste does not follow patterns you never know when its going to rain but just be prepared. carrying an umbrella with you at all times is a MUST! have fun(:
Its REALLY hot and i'm visiting for a business trip this Summer!
I'm going to Costa Rica next week, and I'm staying in the Guanacaste area. The weather report says that it is going to rain all the days I am there. My question is, does is rain hard for a long period of time, or is the weather like Florida, where it rains for 10 minutes and then its done? Anything about the rain patterns would be helpful. Thanks!
