In a strictly existential sense, it is decidedly not real. All of the earth's surface is either rock, plant/animal, mineral, or water. "Russia" is just the word we use to identify a particular hunk of dirt which is nearby to the other hunks of dirt and far away from this hunk of dirt. It's all just dirt -- if we bring dirt from "Russia" and put it on the ground in "America" does the place where the dirt sits become "Russia"? No.
Just like love, hate, beauty, self-identity, and the difference between one drop of water and another drop of water. The boundaries by which we have defined "Russia" are strictly an idea, like ownership of anything else. The lines on your map are imaginary, but useful for communication and identification of different things.

Yes, but it's actually just an island off of the coast of Spain. It used to span across much of Europe, but after the U.S bombed them at the end of the Cold War, it was forced to retract itself to a much smaller size. Don't feel bad about not knowing this, it isn't widely covered in most History classes due to the recency of the issue.
