There's the usual petty crime in the touristy spots, but no more than anywhere else, and probably less in fact. Traffic can be a bit chaotic, especially after dark, so you need to be a bit careful. Turkey is in a seismically active zone, so earthquakes etc. are a possibility, albeit a remote one on any given day.
On the whole Turkey is very safe. Tens of millions of tourists visit the country each year, and the vast majority have no complaints (and for the vast majority of those who do, it's self-inflicted!). I've lived there for a couple of years and visited dozens of times, and never had any problems whatsoever. Obviously, if you go looking for trouble, you're sure to find it, but that's true of anywhere in the world.
I really don't understand this type of questions.
Istanbul is safer than New York, Paris, Prag, Moscow....
Nowhere is 100% safe in the world.
I can only give you a tip : There are over 3 millions of Syrians who escaped from civil war. They're not dangerous, but I would think twice when I get close to them.
Turkey is not only friendly, it is, in many ways, as safe as Europe and North America, although no place is completely safe. Here are some travel danger :Street Crime, Women travelers should be sensitive to local customs and attitudes.
Yes, my mum went 3 months ago. Just two things - stay close to the resort and don't drink the water
Western cities are safer than New York. There are bad districts almost in every city in the world
