I can only speak for Colombia since that is the only South American country I've been to. Colombia is home to a variety of cultures and ethnicities.... And blacks/mulattoes are certainly no exception! There are many blacks in Colombia, and regardless of what color you are, you are always treated with respect and kindness. Race is not a big deal in Colombia, you are just based on who you are and not what you look like. Go to Colombia and have a great time!

You won't have any problems in Peru or Venezuela, as far as I could tell. There wasn't a lot of open hostile racism. I did notice a lot of racism that stemmed from ignorance, but none that had bad intentions or was particularly offensive as long as you have thick skin. I have family from Argentina and they are really racist, but that doesn't say anything about the country. Latin american people as a whole are very welcoming and friendly, I say go for it.
No way man, In Chile and Argentina are a lot of German and italina inmigrants so in Chile , the mapuche native américans are kinda white.

Do your touring via a travel agency. They'll ensure you get to see the popular tourist sites while keeping you out of areas where your physical features might get you in trouble.
yes do traveling agency. many don't like tourists acting like this is their home mostly white/rich people. if you dress like them maybe since your mulatto but they would be able to notice any accent.

Recently, I've been interested in South America and then it came to me.... use the money to tour South America!
My first question regards... race. I am a "Coloured" South African - I am half European, half Xhosa. To be honest, being coloured in South Africa isn't even safe... but still I must ask how accepting they would be of me. I am typical light brown mixed raced, like the same as someone like Halle Berry. Green eyes, buzzcut black hair. Anyway, yeah.... I know there's a huge Black/Mulatto population in Brazil, Guyana and Suriname, so I wasn't worried about there, I wanted to know about more countries like Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay. I know those places have large Mestizo/European/Native populations opposed to Black/Mulatto?? So, generally speaking, how would I find things in those countries with race? I don't want hassle, I've had enough of that in South Africa!!! Hahah.
I don't want to be sounding ignorant, I just really want to know if I should avoid any of these places because they don't like Black/Mulattos particularly. :)
