What's the cost of living in Costa Rica?

I lived in Costa Rica for ten years. The cost of living is nearly the same as in the US or Canada. Car rentals are more pricey. Food is cheaper. Lodging may be a bargain if you are adventurous and not too picky. My wife and I often based ourselves out of this B&B in Alajuela (near the San Jose airport): http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-...

A circuitous route around the country using one of the van services is a smart choice if you do not want to go off exploring the roads less traveled. The Costa Rica forum at lonely planet's thorntree is a source I used to help plan my trips: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/f... Many people currently living in the country are posting responses to questions. Have a great trip.

Pretty much the same as the U.S. or Canada unless you're on the beach (higher) or in an agricultural area (lower).

If you want A/C modern appliances and a modern house you'll spend about the same as you would up north. However you can also live "Tico" style - a simple house maybe only hot water in the shower, fans and screens for cooling, no internet, no cable TV and make it cheaper.

they are a lot higher in CR than panama .you might want to check it out .USD used here .which sucks now because of the exchange rate .direct flights .Sunwing and our shitty Air Canada .both from TO i think .lots to see and do on a holiday .from mountains to the ocean.but you know june is on our winter .more rain .we are just starting summer this month which lasts untilApril/ May

It depends on your consumption level. The higher consumption, the more money.
