Should I travel without paying off credit debt first?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
I have 890 in credit card debt. I want to travel at the end of August. If I don't pay off my debt at all and don't pay rent for september, I'll have around 1250 by the end of the month.

If i do pay off my debt and rent i'll have nothing by the end of the month but i'll stay for september and be able to save 700 for travel. My monthly minimum payment is $25 but that means if i forgo paying the debit i will have it around my neck for the next 3 years or so.

The only reason i'm not considering paying the debt is because i feel like i have no time to lose in light of events like greenland melting, several islands disappearing, and all the weird weather around the world which could mean food shortages soon.... what to do?!

If you pay your debt you'll be free to travel and enjoy the freedom of being debt free.

Most financial advisors would recommend paying off credit card debt before accumulating more debt with discretionary spending like travel.

Unless The Maldives are on your bucket list, there will still be plenty of places to visit if you wait a few years. Meanwhile, what do tourists from elsewhere see when they visit your town?

Be a responsible adult and pay off your debt first. The world will still be around for your travel later.

Travel first worry about the debt later, otherwise you'll never travel anywhere.
