There are a couple things to know before you move here....
- Housing is way more expensive than the mainland (due to limited space on an island)
- Jobs in the tourism industry are abundant, but it is good to learn an asian language (i.e. Japanese)
- There is much more cultural diversity here, so it is good to get accustomed to different food, etc.
Once you save up the money, I trust you, it's worth it.
My brother is in the process of doing just that at the moment. He just sold his home and all household items; transporting goods across the ocean is expensive, the smallest shipping container leaving from California costs about $5000! Wish I could move there too, but I could never afford to live there. Keep saving your pennies.... Pomaika`i!
HGTV runs a whole series of shows about finding a place to live in Hawaii. Some people re buying houses but others are renting. It would give you a good idea of what housing prices are like.
Find a job first over there. The rest will sort itself out.
