Last Minute Honeymoon?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
Hi! Im getting married 20th September 2014 and are currently looking at honeymoon destinations. Myself and my husband to be are really flexible about where to go, as long as there's good weather and is all inclusive then we will just be happy to get away for a couple of weeks. For this reason, we don't see why we should pay full price for a holiday when realistically we could get a decent late deal. Has anyone booked their honeymoon last minute before who could share their experience, good or bad? Pros and Cons to this? We would like somewhere in the Caribbean, but being hurricane season it makes sense to wait til the last minute to check weather and hurricane reports. Or possibly somewhere in the indian ocean like mauritius or seychelles. Does this seem like a good idea or is it just a bit risky? We're not a couple who stress very easy, like I said we're quite laid back about where we go, we don't have that 'perfect' destination in mind.

Hong Kong where the East meets the West with nice weather in September. From wonderful dining and shopping to gorgeous mountain trails, wetlands and nature are all conveniently located and accessible. English is an official language in HK. www.DiscoverHongKong.com

The weather between September and December is usually good as it starts getting warmer here for summer in the southern hemisphere. From the middle of November onwards, it starts raining more and more since summer is also the rainy season. However, it's rarely heavy rain and the temperature is always warm.

From the middle of December to about April is cyclone season so, like in the Caribbean, you should check the last minute weather forecasts. Here's the website for the Mauritius Met dept. - http://metservice.intnet.mu/

Practically every resort here offers some sort of all-inclusive honeymoon package. Prices shoot up in December-Jan when it's peak season over Christmas & New Year. Direct overnight flights from London & Paris several times a week. Hope this helps.

Ruth, keep right away from the Dominican Republic, places like Punta Cana, this is a hot spot for Canadians , but a few have been returning home very ill, and hospitalized in some cases, which has now become a concern of Foreign Affairs.

Talk to your travel agent, about resorts like Sandals.

If it was me, I would be headed to places like the South Pacific, Bora Bora, New Hebrides, Beachcomber Island off Fiji.

Panoramic Journeys offer once in a lifetime holidays to Burma, Bhutan & Mongolia and do some specifically for honeymoons. They can put together a bespoke holiday for you whether it be experiencing the traditional festivals, etc or lying on a beach in a beautiful, remote location. They can add special experiences such as hot air balloon rides over temples, or horse-riding in stunning scenery. Take a look at their website (great photos).
