Can a company use my face to promote their products without my permission?

I'm not 100% certain about this, but I think they can if the photo was taken from an internet site. A few years ago there was a ruling passed that all internet pictures can be used by others. It's called the Instram Ruling, or something very similar to that - if you Google it, I'm sure it will be there somewhere.

Also, professional photographers can usually use photos they have taken, such as photos taken at a wedding or a party.

Other than that I think they need your permission. Citizen's Advice would find out for you.

EDIT: Just been on Google, it's the Instagram Act.

If the Tourist Board did not have you sign a release at the time you registered or the other company did not have you sign a release then they have to remove them. Send them a certified letter and put in the letter that legal action will be taken if they do not remove them.

However you may want to look at the registration information. Several places that hold events, tours, or meetings have in their registrations an automatic release clause about photos usually in a statement that says you give them permission to take photos at the event and be able to use them.

Hope this helps.

If the tourist board organised the trip, then they might be entitled to use all photographs taken by them.

Unless you paid privately to take the trip?

If you're a face in a crowd in a public place, not much.

If on the other hand you are talking about photos showing just you, or you with a couple of others, it's worth asking them not to do so. They may not know who you are (in terms of recognising you from the photo), so try a polite request from you or your employer - it may well work.

What they have done is totally illegal. You can write to them asking them to either pay you for using your photo or alternatively remove it completely. If they don't do either, you have a valid court case and will win thousands in court.

May be

They can't do that. They will try to send you a email. or maybe they asked one of the person in the picture. sorry for lame English.

No they cannot. Send them an email to inform them of your disapproval and ask them to have it removed before you take legal action.

why not? but it is illegal.

I have recently discovered that a travel company are using photos of me (NOT taken by me) in their printed and online brochures.

Since I actually work for a competitor of theirs and am known to them, they could have asked my permission in advance but they didn't and of course I would have been unlikely to agree to it anyway.

Naturally, I am not happy about my face being used to promote a competitor's products but what can I actually do about it?
