I just had 2 surgeries last year. The first was an emergency and, on morphine, I did not get to pick and choose the surgeon willing to operate on a Sunday morning. The second time I became aware I could pick and choose among many qualified surgeons in my area. He did that 2nd operation but the results were not as good. And I considered his "bedside manner" when I chose him to continue dealing with.
You have not even gone to school yet, let alone be placed in a residency, and you do not get assured to be a resident in any particular location. The hospitals do not accept all applicants for residency.
After that, you do not get to choose whether the clinic you want will accept you as a member of their staff. You need to be qualified and they have to need someone in your specialty.
You are getting way ahead of yourself in planning where you will live, and how grand a house and car you will get.
My orthopedic surgeon came from Iowa, went to college and medical school in another state, then orthopedic training in Florida, and landed a job in Wisconsin. NOT where he came from.
Well it depends on your pay. Not all surgeons get paid equally. But I'd say that most male around 400k. So the rule is nothing more then three times your annual pay so that max price would be 1.2million. Of course you could afford a more expensive house if you save for a few years.
So you are choosing career based on the type of car people in that field drive? Then you should consider being a drug dealer or pimp because they have cooler cars than surgeons.
7 years medical training as a Doctor, at least another 5 years before you can specialise as a Surgeon.
