bitinstant.com - they now accept GBP bank transfer
blockchain.info/wallet - through Barclays PingIt service
If you want to use mt.gox you'll have to do an international bank transfer - they no longer have a GBP bank account (same problem Intersango has)
You can also use https://localbitcoins.com/ and buy them in person from a local bitcoin dealer.
First of all, your not convincing anyone your going onto Silk Road for books. I know they are there, and, no, its not legal since your circumventing copyright law. But, fine. We'll go with the books theory.
If you want to go through Mt.Gox, yes, you need to validate your ID. Now, for basic validation, this doesn't mean scanning an ID, its simply saying "Hi, I'm Ross, I live at [address], this is my phone number, etc. (This is considered a legitimate bank, kid, if your not on board with it, you have no business working in bitcoin.) If you want to use Dwolla (Which, for transfers between bank account to bitcoin, is easiest in my opinion), THEN you need to send the ID. There is a third tier for serious traders and bankers going through tens of thousands of bitcoin per day, but I'm sure your not there quite yet. I posted the information on tiers below.
Go to your Mt. Gox account, hit the "Trade" tab, enter how much you want to buy, and choose a method (AurumXchange, Dwolla, BitInstant, etc). At this point, you can go to your bank with the voucher Mt. Gox made for you through whatever you used. Go to the bank, say you want to deposit to that code/number/account the voucher prints out, and wait a few hours for Mt. Gox to turn your currency (I'm assuming USD by your terrible grammar and spelling) into Bitcoin.
As for Silk Road, I'd strongly advise against use, not because its not reputable or because everyone there is a scam artist, they aren't. It is a very professional site, with extremely helpful staff and a surprisingly intellectual community (You really don't expect junkies to spell that well), and even though I'm merely a browser (RE: I HAVE NOT BOUGHT THROUGH SILK ROAD, DEA), the forums are among the best on the internet. There is just a lot of pressure closing in from multiple government agencies around the world, and it seems that many drug dealers have been caught through the site by being sloppy just one time. Its a lot of work and pressure to keep info from slipping out, something I don't expect you could pull off, long term. (Its alright, it can be hard to do. Even the pros get caught eventually.) No word really on if customers have been arrested. But if your just going to purchase 300 "For Dummies" how-to books (For the price of one!), then I would suggest that you do it, then get out. Don't make a new account for each purchase (that just pisses people off) and don't trust anyone with your personal ID, Ross.
If you are wanting to buy Bitcoins in the UK then the best place to start is http://BittyBot.co.uk.
BittyBot compares BItcoin sellers & prices in the UK, the site only recommends reputable sellers and it's content is updated every 5 minutes.
You can also follow @Bitty_Bot on Twitter who will tweet the best prices. It's often cheaper and certainly faster to purchase Bitcoins from a seller directly in the UK rather than send your money to a foreign Bitcoin exchange and have to pay the banks exchange fees/charges.
On this site you find all the details about my favourite binary trading software http://tradingsignal.toptips.org
I like it because it's very easy to use: NO complex charts… NO baffling analysis... NO complicated methods... in fact nothing to learn at all! Check the site... (the proof videos are interesting)
Browse through this magnificent webpage listed here http://www.buybitcoins.xyz , they let it be super easy to buy bitcoins. You will get your bitcoins made available to your main bitcoin wallet almost instantly. They are in fact truly worth exploring. I hope this will help, best of luck to you! :)

Hi there, now i wish to use bitcoins to make a purchase on a site named silkroad for perfectly legal books, but what i need is the bit coins first, i have done alot of research on this but the best site i have found so far to actually buy them is mt.gox as santago require invites now, the thing is mt.gox require validation, full details on my self and photographic ID which i do not wish to give out although at last resort i will, on top of that the fact that a bank transfer is the optimum way for me to purchase BTC from mt.gox as i live in the UK how does that work? once i send the money in to the account of mt.gox how will they know it was me making the purchase and it is to be put into my account? what indicates this? basically i need a step by step guide for purchasing bitcoins in the most simplified way possible please.
Thanks,
Ross.
