I visited communist Hungary in 1978 for the first time, no one knew what a Mcdonals was.
In 1986 on my second visit to communist Hungary they had opened up a hamburger place on the popular Vaci Utca Street. It was called, "Amerika Grill". I didn;t eat red meat in those days but my husband insisted we order a burger just to see what it was.
It was horrid, dry , flat old meat with no catsup, they used to use regular tomato paste and didn't know a thing about Heinz 57.

Well, sadly here in Budapest there is a huge Mickey D's sign on top of a building that funny enough used to have a huge red star in the same spot.

Russia has around 440 McDonalds outlets, unfortunately, though recently a few have been closed down due to sanitation violations.
It is obvious, Adult Australian male knows everything about McDonalds in Russia. Where is Australia and where is Russia? lol
Not all of them are closed. About 10-15 of them, not more.
Russian authorities was suspending operations at some restaurants after testing ingredients and food products and finding unspecified but multiple sanitary violations.

Yes, unfortunately with the dissolution of the USSR poisonous food pseudo-culture penetrated our society along with the media poison. Not to such an extent as in the West, though. And seems like it slowly dies out actually. People just really love natural, traditional foods. But corporations think they're smart and create restaurant chains serving traditional-looking dishes, but the ingredients are still the same as those in an ordinary fast food cr*p. You can also find some traditional looking/sounding foods in local supermarkets, but they also made from GMO, HFCS and stuff like that (e.g. in Ukrainian Silpo http://silpo.ua/ua/ you can find tons of Ukrainian traditional drinks, pirozhki, salads etc made from cr*p, so despite the name, which is just a bait to lure, it's not that different from McDonald's garbage). Monsanto "salivates" over Eastern Europe, too, e.g.: http://rt.com/op-edge/183956-gmo-ukraine... , luckily RF banned it.
