Would like to know this about Ankara?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
I'm actually planning to spend 1 month of my summer vacation (2 months) in Ankara and would like to know before packing the living cost.. I will actually travel with my girlfriend and want to stay in an apartment instead of hotel,, So how much does it cost for 2 in a studio apartment including utility + internet service + food & beverages. Also are Turkish people friendly with Europeans?

Thanks in advance

Sorry to say this, but Ankara is not the most exciting of cities, so I reckon you'll be bored out of your wits after a couple of weeks (latest). Is there any particular reason why you're planning on ruining not just your holiday but your girlfriend's as well like this? Istanbul is about a million times more interesting, and then there's the whole coastline to discover.

Anyway, regarding prices, Turkey is these days surprisingly expensive (well, it surprises me every time I go, but then I'm disadvantaged by having lived there twenty years ago when it was very cheap, so I can't help comparing). On the whole prices are on European level, some things like alcohol and anything imported is more expensive, other things like basic food items (esp. fruits and vegetables) are cheaper. Property prices in Ankara aren't as bad as in Istanbul, but they're not cheap either; you'll probably pay EUR 1,000 per month for an apartment in the city centre, bills included.

Turks are very friendly, really lovely people; I'm sure you'll have no problems on that front.

One more thing: Ankara gets very hot in the summer, and there's no escaping from the heat as there's no sea etc. And given that it's quite a 'formal' city, you can't exactly walk around in beach wear. This is why the natives escape to the seaside for the summer months!

I lived in Ankara for 15 years and I can tell you theres nothing to do there. It's pretty close to cool places like Pamukkale or Cappadocia, but take my advice you'll get bored as hell. Also it's very warm in the summer. The prices aren't bad.

If I were you I'd go to ?zmir, ?stanbul or the North (like Trabzon or Rize). These places are much more exciting and fun. Bare in mind that the north is more conservative and there is absoloutely no nightlife. Turkey is very beautiful, you should definately go, just not to Ankara.

1 month for Ankara is too much I think. But, you can find a way to have fun in there too. I suggest you to go to Istanbul or Izmir. Izmir is close to beaches and everything, if you go there in summer season, you should totally go there. Ankara will be so hot. Even some days in summer they cut the water supply to the houses because of the lack of water. Don't make overstatement about this, it's just few days, I just tell this to make you understand how hot it will be.

Ankara is so boring, so unless you have a job there or have some sort of school thing then I suggest you go to another place in Turkey.
