Peru has a lot of high mountains in its middle and jungle in the east, making transportation difficult. There aren't that many great ports, and the coastline is really hot & dry. But most of South America is poor, too (with the exception of Argentina).

Corruption, terrain, and mentality all hold Peru back from becoming a rich nation. The barbaric Spaniards took most of the gold from Peru and changed the mentality from loyal, honest, hardworking men, to drunk, lying, lazy people. Crime is also a problem. Hopefully one day my beautiful country will overcome all of this.
