You will love Nicaragua! I went last year on a mission trip. Just get a Spanish dictionary and maybe watch movies in Spanish. Go to www.spanishdict.com for help and look us free Spanish lessons online.
Chat with native speakers - if you have any friends who speak Spanish ask them to only speak Spanish to you. You'll pick up a lot really fast in Nicaragua - have fun!
The key is: practice!
Personally, I downloaded Spanish songs and sing. Also, once in Nicaragua, stop speaking English...speak Spanish even if it is not perfect.
So...speak, speak and speak is the key.
