There's a lot of buses in Costa Rica.
You can take MUSOC buses or TRACOPA.
On the internet, you can see schedule and prices.
It's cheap.
You can also take a domestic flight, it's a little bit more expensive, but faster.
Have a safe trip!
Enjoy!
Cris
Hitching is not worth it. Buses are cheap (mostly around $2-$5 but no more than $10) and easy. Just keep a very close eye on your stuff or it will walk off (in the stations and on the bus).
This is a fairly comprehensive up to date bus schedule http://thebusschedule.com/cr/index.php
There are no buses to the entrance of Guanacaste National Park so you'll have to rent a car, hire a jeep taxi, or arrange a guided tour while you're in Liberia.
There are no roads to Tortuguero so you won't be taking the bus or hitching. You can get a bus from San Jose to Cariari where you can catch a special local bus to the water taxi terminal at La Pavona
There a busses that go to all of these places from Liberia. The trick will be to get from the airport to Liberia. Busses are quite cheap in Costa Rica and hitch hiking doesn't really work at all.
Hi Chris,
there are good bus services in Costa Rica and they are inexpensive. Do NOT hitch hike in Costa Rica or anywhere else in Centrial America because it is not worth it.
If you have done so already do you know which buses to take ?
and If I start in Liberia and want to end in San Jose what route should I take ?
also want to go to Alajuela and Torteguero and Guanacastle national park
