It's much more laid back and relaxed than the Pacific and Puerto Viejo is a fun little town.
A couple of favorites on the southern Carib. If you want to be close to town - Banana Azul http://www.bananaazul.com/ and if you're thinking about renting a house they have several FANTASTIC options at Casa Viva http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-... and finally north of Cahuita Piscinas Natural (no website) is a bargain hunter's dream - inexpensive and unique
A very nice and laid back area of a gorgeous country. Can't recall where I stayed but not to worry as there are many nice cozy small hotels. Having said all that tho, one must be careful and act responsibly in that area of Costa Rica. It wasn't more than 5 years ago the stories were scary. But the youngsters that got into trouble were drinking and dancing alone in some of the shadier local bistros in the wee hours of the morning. Haven't heard much negative news lately so am assuming it's not an issue anymore,..just a word to the wise.
I stayed there. It was great. Really relaxing if you like the beach and a few nice hikes nearby. You will love it.
Awful.
Had anyone stayed/visited in puerto viejo? What did you think of the area and what place did u stay? And just how u liked it in general :)
