Renting a car in Costa Rica?

Incredibly safe to drive during the day. No inspection for vehicles so driving at night not recommended. Obey speed signs cops will pull you over, if pulled over negotiate the fine (bribe) usually $20 will work. Hit the Osa Penninsula or southern zone for the most beauty. The northern west coast is more popular but feels like florida with a bunch of wealthy old Americans. Hit arenal for the volcano and hot spring. Enjoy, it is the best place on earth.

Renting a car and driving in costa rica is quite cool. The prices are okay if you book it at your home country. But try to drive chilled and obey the laws or the high traffic fines are gonna get you :)

Relatively safe but driving at night can be problematic because of axle breaking potholes and people walking on the unlit highways. There is a mandatory insurance that is quite high and that is unwaivable more than $20 a day.

Renting a car is a good option. I personally swear by Hertz.

In my opinion, you should definitely check out

1. Tamarindo - prime spot for surfing and sportfishing

2. San Jose : experience the victorian era in a modern day setting

3. Corcovado National Park : harbors several major eco systems

4. Arenal Volcano

Traveling solo to Costa Rica and would really like to rent a car for a week, but have trepidations in this type of country. Any advice on transportation around the country? Renting cars / insurance or rental car companies? Top 4 travel destinations for early May? Muchas gracias!
