How fit for the Inca Trail?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
I'ts good enough if you do some up-stairs walk. In cuzco you can buy on any drugstore a pill called SOROCHIPIL. It helps a lot in high altitude (take one 15 minutes before a hike)

Hello, do not worry too much about the Inca trail ... are 12 km of walk per day and is not run, because they are stopping and walking as they do in 7 hours walking the first day ... the second day really is the steepest road as it reached the top, 4.200 meters .. this will make the 8 hours it slowly, the second day will have the most beautiful panoramic views of your trip ...

and the third will be down and up event 16 km in 7 hours but steady and that makes it softer ... the fourth day is almost the entrance to Machu Picchu but before go through the Inti Punku or "Door of the Sun" from there you have a complete view of the citadel before entering .. what if I recommend before, is to take a few days of altitude acclimatization, viisitando Arequipa, Puno or Cusco ... I hope to be of help .. I'm a travel advisor...please don be afraid ...your trip will be perfect!... miriaminkawasi@hotmail.com, miriam_macedo@hotmail.com

You left out one key factor in deciding if you'll make it or not.

Do you hike?

You can increase overall stamina and strength with exercise and diet but hiking demands specific muscles. If you can't get to a trail you need to start walking. Hopefully uphill. The Inca Trail is rated as 'moderate' which means the ascents aren't overwhelming but that's a little subjective considering you'll be hiking at elevation. The air is a lot different at 13K. Also, how heavy will your pack be? Makes a lot of difference.

I'd DEFINITELY make sure to have a smart food program worked out. That will make as much difference as what kind of shape you're in right now.

Personally, I'd be STOKED to have the chance to do that hike although my understanding is that you have to do it with a tour. That wouldn't work for me but I'm sure they'll take good care of you.

One foot in front of the other. Find your rhythm. Work when it gets hard. You'll get there. And I bet your mind will be blown when you do.

Good luck and ENJOY.

Hi girl,

from what I read I can tell that you are fit enough for the Inca Trail. It is not really that difficult. Enjoy your trekking, you'll love it.

So I'm doing the Inca trail shortly, the 4 day hike but I simply don't have enough time get my fitness level to where I wanted it to be.

I'm an average weight, I work 50hours, 6 days a week as a waitress in a restaurant so I'm constantly on my feet and running around. By the time I get home the last thing I want to do is physical exercise!

I went for a run two weeks ago and lasted 2kms and I've been doing Calf Rises, Lunges, Crunches and Squats a few times a week but nothing like my training should be.

I used to do 3kms practically everyday but work has gotten in the way so much lately that my stamina is at the bare minimum.

Am I going to make it?
