Costa Rica vs England?

which is better to go on a vacation

I have been to both countries more than a few times. One memory of my first trip to England still lingers. It was a trip to London and it was the beginning of June, and I almost froze my butt off. Not that it was a freezing cold, but just that I didn't expect temps in the low 50's ( deg F ) during the day, in June yet.

England is a great place to go if you're interested in very old historical stuff. My trip from London to West Yorkshire to see York Minster was fantastic,..for me, 'cause at that time I was engrossed in old relics.

Now that I am an old relic, I would much prefer to fly down from Miami to a tropical paradise like Costa Rica. I don't care what time of year you go, you'll find good weather. The rainy season, ( May thru Dec 1st or so ), does not bother me one bit. So it rains heavily for an hour in the late AM, who cares ? It's sunny and warm after that. OK so San Jose' in the eastern plateau area, gets coolish for a couple months in winter, so if it's too cold for you, you just hire an SUV and drive to either coast. My preference is the mid - lower Pacific coast, from Quepos all the way down to the Osa Peninsula.

Just my preference, but envy anyone going to either place. Why ? Because the beer in England is maybe the best in the world ! Fresh Newcastle Brown Ale,..ahhh. ( smile ) Makes up for a lot. However, all in all, IMHO, considering the distances, I'd opt for balmy Costa Rica in a heart beat. Good luck !

It depends when you go! I live in Brighton in England, near London, and the weather isn't particularly great around the Winter, however in Spring and Summer the place is beautiful.

There is so much to see and do in this country, from the big bustling nightlife cities like London, Manchester and Liverpool, to the smaller places like the beautiful, tranquil Cotswold area or the Lake District. You will never get bored of London, but if you want to include all of Britain, Edinburgh is amazing too. Paris and Dublin are only a ferry ride away! Everything is so close to one and other! The countryside areas are incredibly safe, and very varied in culture and people. The cities are full of culture and all sorts of international cuisine, especially Indian food and Italian (but British pubs and drink are great too).

Costa Rica on the other hand is a serious trip! You'd want to avoid the monsoon season and remember its a developing country. A quarter of the country is national parks and is incredibly bio diverse. The people are statistically the happiest in the world, and the country's motto is 'Pura Vida', meaning 'Pure Life'. Surfing, Sun, Rainforests and Wildlife, with glistening golden beaches and amazing weather. I am going there for a volunteering trip in January so I know a great deal about both locations!

Anyway, if considering England, definitely consider both Wales and Scotland too, as both are incredible places. Things are more expensive, but London is one of, if not the greatest city in the World (Alpha ++ rating). Costa Rica is a totally different kind of holiday, but it is democratically the safest in Central America and is a truly beautiful place.

Good luck with your decisions and have a fantastic holiday!

Those are two completely different vacations!

England has nice scenery, is a cooler, rainier place most of the year. Historical sites, castles, etc. Nice local pubs, & London is a nice city.

Costa Rica is tropical, with beaches, volcanoes, rainforests, hot springs, etc. There is alot to see, especially wildlife. It's an extremely interesting country with a very warm culture. The locals are friendly and the food is great. Activities range from surfing to whitewater rafting, ziplining, hot springs, snorkeling, and more.

I've been to both places and for vacation I would enjoy more Costa Rica because of the beaches, etc. Actually, I've come so many times on vacation that I ended up moving here :)

I can tell you right now, that if you end up on the wrong coast of Costa Rica & at the wrong time of year, you're gonna spend your vacation in mud & bugs or having no fun cuz you're on the wrong side of the land. So you're gonna have to research THAT.

England: That's a completely different kind of vacation. More seeing than say, doing.

'Depends on w/whom you're going & how old you are & what your plans are. If I were going to England I'd spend lots of time researching beforehand-the city to where I was going, researching the nearby castles, the history OF those castles, etc. Otherwise this significance can be quite lost.

Costa Rica: Show up at the right time of year, surf & scuba dive, & get all the belongings in your car stolen.

If I went to Costa Rica I'd go to ONE destination-like a surf camp or resort. England-I'd drive all over the place & see stuff.

Dunno. 'Hope that helps?
