Foremost is the Arenal Volcano near La Fortuna. a spectacular display and mind numbing scenery, especially if you stay at The Arenal Observatory Lodge, It is the closest full service resort to the firepit and every room has a picture window facing the peak. Inexpensive as well when compared to some of the others.
Second, I would recommend Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Many large resorts to stay at. Arrive on a Friday and then take in the color film that night that highlights what you will see and do the next morning on the long hike up into the clouds. A 4 x 4 SUV is a must on this escursion.
Manuel Antonio is another " don't miss " place. Lots of tourists but still worth a look, gorgeous beaches.
Dominical and Uvita, both located south of Manuel Antonio, are great places to simply relax on the beach and try some surf lessons. The zip line just 500 yds north of Dominical's town center, is the best in the country
The Osa Peninsula is a fantastic place, but with 2 weeks, you won't have enough time. Instead check out Samara on the northern Guanacaste coast. A small, quaint town emblamatic of the small towns in CR fifty years ago ! A quiet, relaxing getaway just a 5 min walk to one of the best ( and uncluttered by humans ), beaches in all of CR.
Good luck !
Costa Rica is such a very nice place to travel with family. There are many amazing travel attractions to visit and spend some wonderful time.
We publish a map of Costa Rica and have traveled all over the country to research it and this is the list we came up with of the ten best places to go http://costa-rica-guide.com/travel-map/t...
Each one includes a description of what the place has to offer, what makes it special and why we loved it.

One of the most visited places is the "Arenal" region. The lake and Volcano.
You will enjoy the tropical environment,,,zip-lining,,all the fun stuff.
They also have thermal swimming pools from the volcano. The more expensive and exclusive one is "Tabacon" http://tabacon.com/costa-rica-resort-the...
and then there is the other one (which I usually go to) it's less expensive, and still fun. "Baldi"

La Fortuna, which is right there, also has a beautiful waterfall to visit.
Enjoy your time,,,,,it's Beautiful.
When my grandkids came I took them to LaPaz. It is near the Poas volcano. You can spend a whole day there. 5 waterfalls, monkeys, large cats, pet the macaws, butter fly cage, hummingbird garden, snake display, nice buffet lunch. There is a trout lake..you catch them..they will cook them. They have rooms to rent (if you can afford them!!!!)
It is aprox $30 pp for non residents to enter.
Hope this helps Have fun!
See Monte Verde cloud forest--it is spectacular!
I need help. I am traveling with family to Costa Rica in two weeks, and my family needs me to look up interesting places. We will be there for about two weeks, which should give us plenty of time to do what we want. What I could use the most is websites telling me all the information. We are arriving in San Jose but do NOT plan to stay there. I need a list of different places and what they can offer to us. There are two children, 15 f, 12 m,so age appropriate things please! We aren't interested in tour packages, we would rather do things by day, not two days for said things and the next two days for something else.
I am also looking for peoples opinions, not just the tour guide websites, but ratings and comments. If you can help, then please do, IMMEDIATELY!!!! Thanks :)
