Why hotels in London are so expensive?

I am going to England for 5 day and when I try to book a hotel in London for under $100 I end up with hotels that are cesspits or hostels with shared bathrooms with very little options but in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia I can get Hyatt or Holiday Inn for around 90 bucks usually.

Why are hotels in London so expensive?

It is a very popular location so good rooms are more expensive, especially in central London. Plus, the cost of doing business in London is quite high so those get added into the cost of the rooms. Try some of the mid-priced chains like Novotel, Holiday Inn, and Super 8 in some of the outer areas. We really enjoyed the Holiday Inn at Hammersmith. It was a few blocks from the Underground, but from there we could get anywhere in the city easily.

Because it's London. Living costs are high, that affects what wages hotels can afford to pay, and that affects what they can afford to charge you. Simple economics.

The big factor in this is the high demand for housing, due to the high demand to work in London because of what it can offer, which makes houses expensive because sellers can get away with selling at a higher price. That has a knock-on effect on everything else. Public sector employers usually add "London weighting" to wages as otherwise nobody will take the jobs, because they can't afford to live anywhere reasonably close to work otherwise.

Generally London's hotel prices are dropping due to the number of new hotels.

The main problem is that London is simply the number one destination for tourists and the hotels will take advantage of that demand.

Book well ahead !

It is partly demand and partly due to high taxes. It was worse (for Americans) when the Pound was worth two US$. The prices are higher during summer and around Christmas.

partly because of Supply and Demand and partly because the usa Dollar is Weak against the UK Pound

the dollar is only worth about 65 Cents

Because it's a capital city, one of the busiest business destinations in the World.

Is a dear city and country.....WE are the UK not the US...
