Really does depend on the kind of holiday you want. If you self explore and look out for cheap eats and decide to stay in backpackers accommodation the price can be around $100 per day per person. However if you decide to add in guided tours, fancy restaurants, better accommodation you can expect that this will have you up your budget to around $350+ per day per person. We think its best to have a bit of both worlds. Maybe search out for the cheap eats as thats usual yummy local food you will enjoy immensely and take an occasional guided tour as they are informative but stay in backpackers or low star hotel accommodation cause you will gain more from the experience.

Ironically the longer you stay somewhere, the cheaper it is per day. I traveled in Asia for 8 months on 12 000$. I did 4 months in South America for 5500$.
However I know people go to these 2 week holidays for the same amount I spent in 4 months. So it's about how you travel, where you stay and so on.
When I go to visit family, it usually costs somewhat under $1000 for airfare, food, shopping, and doing things. If I drive to someplace like Yellowstone for a few days, it's even less. My next trip to Europe in a few weeks will cost me about $3000 for a week for airfare, hotel, food tickets to Keukenhof and other things I want to do for the week I'll be there plus a little shopping.
Depends on where you go. I've gone to Turkey for 3 weeks and it cost us roughly $6000. I went to the Myrtle Beach for a week and only paid about $100 for gas and another $300 or so for eating out as I was staying in a free condo.
