Just because a few people follow one trend does not mean the rest of the people are like that. Just so you can appreciate what I'm saying, it's like hearing about a Muslim blowing somewhere up in a terrorist attack and then automatically assuming all Muslims are terrorists.
Firstly, hello. I am Brazilian. You're half-right about Brazilians hating themselves.
What Cortez said about Brazil not being a third world country is a lie. Brazil is a thrid world country, and it is a shame some people put themselves in such a narrow-minded point of view called nationalism. Cortez did it, (correct me please if I'm wrong), most of the Americans do it. Brazilian people in general aren't nationalist at all, we are ashamed of the way this country works (or doesn't work), we see other northern countries as the example to be followed and we are resigned to run after them. It is a heritage of our portuguese-colonial era.
That's only one reason for why light-coloured physical characteristics are so well apreciated here. The other one is because it's associated with wealth and power since the elit is decends almost-directly from european high-class people.
Brazilian people aren't nationailist. We know the problems our country has, we are ashamed of them but we do not hide them from the world. This is why we can say Brazilian people have some of the most beautiful feelings - patriotism. No, patriotism does not mean to be willing to die for your country. But it means knowing our pros and cons and not denying them. Call off the Brazilian goverment in the company of a Brazilian, it is highly probable he/she will agree with your and he/she himself/herself will call of the Brazilian goverment alongside you.
But that feeling is something so ephemeral that almost no one realises it. Just a proof of that. We have some of the worst corruption and social worldwide indicators, poverty is a serious issue here, public health and education are horrible, the same car cost US$60,000 in the US and R$ 1,500,000 here... Pretty bad hun? Know ask a Brasilian if they like their country. They will say yes with a smile. I would do this, because after all this is our home... And, as a personal experience, there is some kind of warmth here... it is hard to explain, but it is like that everyone steps together, everyone hates and loves, stands and falls, gets proud and disappointed togrther...
So yes, Brazilians hate themselves in every way possible, but it is very hard to find a Brazilian who has given up on Brazil...
What are you talking about? You are stupid. Brazil is not third world. Southern Brazil in particular is very advanced and prosperous. Millions of Brazilians have pale skin, light hair, and eyes too. Brazilians are not self haters. Brazilians are proud! Non-white Americans are more self haters. All those black and Asian Americans try to be white by wearing Western clothing, watching Hollywood movies or tv shows, adhering to European artistic, literary, and musical canons, using Western technology, studying at American universities, etc. They are self-haters not Brazilians. You dumb. Never disrespect Brazil again!
maybe a few rich geeks, but the rest of us people hate americans and their way of life and either way live much happier than any of you
its like they're self haters. I've heard a lot of them say they find Americans more attractive because we're paler and have light hair and eyes. Basically Nordic looking. Um, we're not all white. Why the hell do 3rd world countries think that? I've heard Brazilians, Filipinos, etc. say that.
there are millions of black, Latino(yeah not a race but you know what I mean so don't get all smart@Ss on me), Asian etc Americans as well.
