I say ignorance, people are ignorant about alot of things like in rural areas and Indian areas they are ignorant about hygiene and about history, civics, and many other things. People are ignorant about other people and are racist, indians toward all other groups, and whites toward indians and blacks, and the indians assume that all people who are not indian descent are tourists and foreigners. People also have a "poor mentality" and think that other countries have more money, and are better, you always hear people wanting to leave Peru and live abroad, especially in the u.s. They usually do not actually know anything about those places exept from t.v shows however. Crime is also somewhat of a problem but not near as much as it is in other latin american countries or in the u.s. Crime is becoming worse though, and it does not help that the government does not do anything about it, no death penalty, no life in prison, no punishment of any kind for anyone under age 18. In my opinion the Catholic "church" is one cause of ignorance and certainly it's the reason there is no death penalty here, you can see that catholic countries usually have higher crime rates. Another problem is that many people have to work 12 hours a day, and/or 6 days a week, some do not get paid much, maybe U.S.$400 per month. But in general, i think Peru has less serious problems than many countries, including the u.s. where i have also lived. The economy is very good here, and things are improving alot.
The biggest problem in Peru is the high consumption of cocaine and other drugs in the US and other countries that belong to the industrialized world. It is calculated that there are 40 million of drug-addicts only in the US. These consumers create a black market of cocaine and drug producers come to our country to prepare these "products" for the American consumers.
social dis-equality, although peru is a rich country, the economic resources don't reach the whole people the same, because as the old saying says, rich people get richer, poor people get...
but in the other hand, it depends on your self if you want to make money, if you want to make a better person of your self & help some else by sharing your money by making new business & haring people so they all make more money, if the money is your main goal
Clean water. When i went to peru we had to buy flavored water (bottle) or regular bottled water if ee wanted water. You CANNOT drink out of the tap
the huge gap between the rich and poor. lack of education, crime, teenage pregnancies, sanitary conditions.but to name a few
Cocaine. The blow. The toot for your noggin.
