Should I travel to Italy or Spain?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
I am planning to travel to Europe with two friends of mine in August this summer. The trip will be just over weeks long. The current plan is to travel to France first, and then to go to either Italy or Spain from France. Which would be the better place to go to based on convenience and tourism? Also, please include some good places to visit in those countries along with your answer.

You left out how much time you actually have for the trip, but either one would be good depending on your interests. Having lived in Italy for the last 13 years, I can highly recommend it - beautiful art, architecture, scenery and music, interesting local festivals, great people and food. Beaches, mountains, lakes, the ocean, historic sites, world class museums and galleries and a lot of varied things to see and do. You can get to Venice, Florence, or Rome among other places on the night train from Paris.

There's also a convenient night train to Barcelona from Paris. Barcelona is a wonderful city with the Gaudi architecture, the barrio gotico, Sagra Familia, Las Ramblas, the Picasso museum, art, soccer ... From there you could go on to Madrid, the area around Navarre, the Costa del Sol or Valencia or other coastal areas.

I have never been to Italy, but I traveled to Spain last Christmas. Spain was wonderful in my opinion, especially being able to learn more about the foods, languages, and people there. I went to Barcelona, so there were quite a lot of people there. Like, A LOT. Also, where I was at, Spanish was the main language. I think Italy would also be a fantastic place to visit, so honestly I don't think you can go wrong. Both places are going to have a lot of people. You might try looking into travel prices, and choose the cheaper one if you can't decide.

Hi! I think both are pretty nice and good but may be Spain is a better option for summer. In August Rome, for example, is very very hot. In Spain I recommend you:

- Barcelona: because there a lot of things to see, like Gaudí works, las Ramblas, Montjuic, a lot of beaches, the Gothic area... You also can go shopping and do a trip day to Montserrat, Sitges or the Costa Brava.

- Madrid: may be it's too hot but you have to visit it. Some place you have to go are: Palacio Real, Retiro Park, la Latina, Templo Debod, Plaza Espa?a...

- Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba: three cities in Andalucía you have to visit. The Alhambra, in Granada, is one of the nicest works in Spain.

- Valencia: is perfect for summer. There are a lot of beaches and the old part of town is really nice. You also have to visit "la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias".
