It has always been a rather open society as far as letting people from all religious backgrounds to practice their faith.
My husband was raised in Budapest during the communist days. He was an alter boy and in the choir.
It was not the best idea for anyone to go to church in those days but the gov. was not as hard as in other soviet countries.
Most of my husbands childhood friends were of the Jewish faith, he had some that were Greek and as few were Muslims from Turkey.
Many Turkish sites are considered holy here and they were not torn down in soviet times, some are over 500 years old.

Yes. Interesting zoo in Budapest. Also, a museum of torture in the old KGB/Gestapo headquarters. Lots of baths and a big 'clubbing' scene.
