the last poll conducted there gave 98% support to remaining british rather than argie; so; why should the argies get it??
the falklands are about 300 miles off the short of argentina. thats not even flipping CLOSE. its certainly NOT in their waters- so bollocks to their claim its near them EITHER. it was claimed before argentina was even a country, so- yah, boo, sucks on that score, too.
it was legally settled in the 1830s by brits, most of the population of 2500 are britsh or brit descent- many can trace their lineage back- more than most argies can say.
idiots like sean penn, last year, should keep their noses out- HIS family have been in the US far less time than the most falklanders- noone's suggesting HE should leave.
the same can be said for argentina, which was settled by the spanish. is she suggesting that people of spanish heritage in argentina should... return to spain? no of course not. but thats the natural extension of her 'argument'.
she's kicking up a fuss because her country is in a mess, and they want the oil money from it. i believe we fought the falklands war before we knew there was oil there, tho im not 100% on that.
why the HELL should we get pushed around by some uppity miss without a leg to stand on?? the falklanders want to remain a protectorate- nuff said.
The fact remains, it is up to what Falklanders themselves want. Besides, the 2000 who aren't from Britain are from the Islands!
Given that the islands were uninhabited when the ancestors of the current residents came, they are the indigenous peoples of them, and should be afforded the same considerations, rights and protections that the First Nations of Canada, Australia or New Zealand receive.
Your thinking is terribly shortsighted. If Britain were to sell out the rights of the Falklanders, what would that mean for the safety of your rights? What of yours could be sold without your consent or permission?
We colonised the falklands before argentina even existed. The people on the islands what to remain british. If you dont like the islands thats ok but many people do and i may go there in the future. Most of the population there are british. Even if we did sell them argentina couldnt afford to buy
Simple reasons. The people want to be British so how can you be a democracy if you maek people live under a government they didn't vote for? Also pride and oil has been found which is why Argentina has kicked up a fuss because it wants the oil.
Because the people that live in the Falklands want to be British (who wouldnt?) so it's not like we can abandon them. Cristina Fernandez is only after the islands to distract the Argentinians from their crumbling country.
I could not give a flying feck if there was only one falklander on that island, and he was chines african, heritage if he says he wants to be british then he gets the full protection of the british, all for one and one for all
Do you actually know what you are talking about? Come back with better facts and you may be taken seriously.
For a start Argentina don't want to PAY for the island- and even if they did, they can't afford to!

there's oil nearby, that's why they're fighting
I am from the UK and the falklands are legally the uk's, argentina want them and believe it is theres.
I am stunned that the UK is still protecting that crappy little island, for the sake of 3000 people and 2000 arent even from britain. Tiny economy, no real future, horrible weather.
Argentina should be sold the islands.
