I've recently thought about moving to a different country to start a new life. I'm basically bored of the UK and I don't really have a lot going for me here. I'm 21 and I still live with my folks in England.
I've managed to save a little bit of money, I've got roughly £10, 000.
Can anyone suggest anywhere that I can consider moving to?
I've thought about somewhere like The Philippines or Canada, but I have no idea what living conditions are like etc.
Any advice and suggestions would be great.
Thanks!
My answer will likely be decried by people suggesting the former Empire and other 'developed places', but I personally recommend the former Eastern Bloc. I've lived in the Republic of Georgia for two years (visited here on and off for five) and it's awesome. I am so sick and tired of the stereotype of former Soviet countries being one giant depressing concrete block. Tbilisi is a beautiful city (the 'Paris of the Caucasus), people are friendly and kind, the countryside is wonderful and the cuisine is very different and delicious. As a Westerner, you're automatically treated as something special; it's very easy to be employed in good jobs and make friends, and living costs (including for the most luxurious things) are very cheap. I'm not as familiar with countries such as Ukraine and Armenia, but they're even cheaper if they appeal to you (though as such they are much poorer than Georgia, with visible poverty which isn't seen here). Up to you. Personally I think moving to somewhere like Canada or Australia is a bit 'done', why not do something different? Besides, immigration to those countries is tough for British people like us (kind of unfair seeing as they have the same rights in the UK as us...but then we're going there by the bucketload). In essence, it's easy to live the 'bigshot lifestyle' in Eastern Europe if you're Western ;)
Hi Benjamin,
before choosing any country based on the suggestions you get you need to figure out which country will give you a resident visa. This is way more difficult than to choose the country of your liking. As far as I know Australia is easier for you because you have a UK citizenship. However, without a good education and some job experience you will have a hard time to find a decent job and make a living.
Benjamin, you mention Canada, great country, but you do have to meet immigration criteria. The weather specially in winter can be extreme, like where I am we get down to minus 33, other areas lower, whereas other provinces a little milder.
I would have to agree with the other Answer, though Australia is more expensive to Canada, and they have a strict immigration selection, salaries are relative to cost of living, the weather is absolutely awesome, specially in winter, where it is a lot milder to Canada, very safe country, strict gun laws.
But the fun in the sun, is absolutely outstanding with the beaches, and the other leisure activities, Australians enjoy..
Our living conditions, are similar to Australians, but from what I saw, I really like the home construction designs in Australia, quite spacious.
Rural Thailand, near Kalasin. If you are over 50, you can get a resident visa. You can buy a house with little money and a worker (f or f) can work for you if needed for 200 Baht a day, which is only £4
Cheap and peaceful place to live --- Philippines
but you should pick a nice location , cuz some parts of Manila are experiencing floods every rainy seasons(July,August,Sept,Oct)
But if Tibet is FREE .. Tibet is the perfect place to live .. :))
Tibet
Australia , they do not get involved into world affairs, and it seems pretty peaceful, and you are able to do a lot of outdoor things their.
canada will become very cold at winter
