Can anyone travel to Afghanistan?

Me and my friend are having a debate. I know that you can't get a visa to go to afghanistan without giving them your travel itinerary and providing proof that there's some real reason you need to go there but could anyone travel to Afghanistan as long as they jump through all the hoops and provide all the necessary documents? Like even if you didnt have a real reason to go except for tourism could you go? Or are civilians excluded from entering the country entirely?

And please don't answer unless you actually know what you're talking about. No offense but most of the people on here don't.

As far as I know, no country actually prohibits their citizens from going there. For US citizens, Cuba is basically the only country with significant travel restrictions. They issue tourist visas - http://mfa.gov.af/en/page/3903

Im an Afghan. People in Afghanistan are nice. U can get direct flights to kabul. There are lota of hotels. Bamyan offers tourism. All you need is visa which can be done easy since Afghanistan has embassy in Ottawa and in NYC

Sure. But it's not like you can hop on a plane to get there. You can probably get away with going through pakistan and walking across the border. You will get taken hostage if you were just wandering around there though.

Yes, You can go to afghanistan. We did not need to get any "documents" we just had our passports, and we went to visit family there. (I am half white half Afghan) American Airlines to FlyDubai to Safi I think is what we took.
