after Cuzco you can take a bus to Puno/Lake Titicaca and from there into Bolivia, La Paz is only if im not mistaken 4 hours from the border (Desaguadero). depending on how long you want to stay in each place you visit you might be able to visit Arequipa, Peru also.
but it all depends how long you stay in each place and also your budget (so u can move on plane or bus) and also if you never been to Lima and probably wont be back for a long time, you might want to sight see Lima for a couple of hour before you head back out.
You pretty much have to go back to Lima to get Cuzco. There used to be Aero Sur flights from La Paz Bolivia to Cuzco 2-3 times a week but the airline went bankrupt and I don't know if anyone has taken over the route-- it was the only way to get to Cuzco from another country. I think Peru and perhaps Northern Bolivia would be best. In Peru there is Lake Titicaca, Arequipa and the canyons, the Nazca lines and after that the jungle and Northern Peru. However, it would be easy enough also to drop into Northern Bolivia and take in a few things like the Salar the Uyni which is the world's largest salt flat and visit places like Potosi and Sucre.
Well I think you can start your trip from Lima, Peru and then after that you can go to Bolivia and Chile since is close by. But I will recomend you to go to Colombia and Venezuela.
I heard Cartagena is absolutely beautiful, here is a link of Colombia Best Things To Do & See In Colombia: Tourist Attractions: http://wanderingtrader.com/colombia/best...
Venezuela is a beatiful country. If you want to do something more like relax and being on the beach and party at night I will say Margarita Island (Isla de Margarita) and if you want to experience more like an adventure I will say Angel Fall (It's one of the highest waterfall in the world) and the amazon here is a link of best thins to do in Venezuela: Best Things To Do In Venezuela: Tourist Attractions: http://wanderingtrader.com/venezuela/bes...
Hope you will have fun in your trip.
it's winter over there but up in Columbia, Venezuela, and Central America it's pretty warm. depends what you want to do. you could go to southern Peru and visit the colca canyon (my aunt is a tour guide there), or you could check out the amazon jungle whether on the Peru or Brazil side.
Go to Argentina. I hear it's beautiful there in the summer season.
Looking to travel to South America at the beginning of June 2014, after finishing graduate school and before starting a full time job. It looks like I'll have about 16 days to work with, and even though it's pretty much a year away I've started looking into possible itineraries.
I KNOW that I want to do Peru and Machu Picchu, and originally I intended on just spending the entire time in Peru. But I'm starting to consider the possibility of maybe taking 5-7 of those days and spending them in another country. I've done the Europe backpacking trip so I'm pretty used to constant travel all over the place, although I know getting around South America is considerably more difficult than getting around Europe. Still, I want to look into the idea of maybe experiencing another nearby country in addition to Peru
So that brings me to my question...assuming I flew into Lima and see at a minimum Machu Picchu/Cuzco for several days, does anyone have experience or advice in continuing on to another country? Or perhaps starting in another country and finishing a trip in Cuzco/Lima? I imagine I'd have to focus on either Northern Peru + another country up there like Ecuador or Colombia, or Southern Peru + another country like Bolivia. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions :)
