There are estate agents who arrange auctions of the entire contents of a house, you can find "I sold it on Ebay" sort of stores where you can drop stuff off, kinda like a consignment store, between their fees and ebay charges, the middlemen would probably make mire than you.
Odds are you don't have the many hundreds of dollars of goods that would make it worthwhile for an agent to visit your hose.
DIY by taking pictures and putting them in free Ads on Craigslist.org is probably the most practical approach.

I am curious if there is a profession where someone comes to your home, you choose items in your home you want to sell, and that professional finds buyers and sells your items for you. The reason I ask is because I have items in my house i would like to get rid of and preferably get good enough money for, but i do not have the time to spend trying to find a great buyer, it would be very convenient if someone who had knowledge of the kinds of people who would want to buy my stuff for a good price, rather than me taking time and selling it for dirt on craigslist. I am just hoping this exists, if not someone should be doing it.
