I run across these ads a lot on craigslist. Is this a legit job opportunity or a scam ?

That's a scam. No employer will ask for a deposit for training.

I have never heard of a legitimate company charging a $90 deposit for an interview. I would call the Department of Labor on Monday to see if this is even legal as many states have laws that prohibit employers from charging any upfront fees

I signed up to something similar and it turned out be a scam! Be careful on line with things like this. legitimate jobs won't ask for money to cover training costs, they budget this into the costs of the business!

Just the way they describe themselves HR seems shady, paying for for reception desk training sounds very suspicious, call them and insist you are already experienced with that work and see if you still get an offer.

Some other recent answers about the same ad go into more detail:

I called the person and scheduled an appointment and they told me to bring ID, a copy of my social, and ID along with my resume. They also asked for a 90 dollar deposit which will be returned after 3 days (thats when my training session ends), This is a city job and pays very handsomely i just want to know if its real.
