You can earn money with advertising. You can sell things from your website. You can list other peoples items for other people (affiliate) and have them pay you a commision per sale or lead.

So for example if you click on a link on the sidebar in Google the page you are going to pays Google a fee for that click based on how popular that term is and how much they bid to have their ad placed. Google also places these paid ads on other peoples site and then in turn pays them a commision for having placed the site on the ad that a person clicked on

A company selling a product will pay you based on someone buying their product by having clicked on the link on your site

You can sell everything from books you have written to a old show and when someone buys it you send it to them and they pay you.

Facebook does both pay per click ads as well as pay per signup or pay per sale ads

hope that helps :)

There are many ways the website owners can get paid.

Providing services, paid premium content, member upgrade etc etc....

If you are looking at earning money from a website, I suggest displaying advertising for affiliate programs and pay per click advertising.

Ad revenue is the most common way for sites to earn revenue, often through a 4rd party ad management company. Some directly sell ad space, some use brokers like buySellAds. A large number of store sites have affiliate programs that pay a commission for sending them paying customers, these affiliate links can be simple text links in a product comparison article.

Store sites making their own sales are common as well, there's the occasional paid membership site as well.

They get paid by the people who advertise on them. Yahoo always has commercial ads on all of their pages. For every hit, they get a fee. And if someone clicks on the link, they get a bigger fee. But the rates are kept private.

No. Web sites that earn money do so by either charging a fee for their services, or by asking for donations, or by selling advertising space.
