An easy way for the charity to raise money.
Put up a sign on your door/window saying "no hawkers or charity collectors". That way you'll be opening your door less frequently and greatly reducing the chance of someone pushing their way in (or sneaking round the back door whilst you're distracted), never mind extracting sensitive information from you.
Maybe contact the cancer charity and find out whether this was a genuine representative of theirs. They really should at least be arming all their collectors with ID. They will be very interested to hear of imposters, because this detracts from the money available to them, and the Police often put out alerts which could save an older or more vulnerable person being hoodwinked.
Ring cancer research and ask them. Also if any others knock ask for the companys phone number and ring them in front of the person . If it is not genuine they tend to run of in a hurry :)
Get a BIG fake shotgun.
Keep it by your door.
Next time someone passes by with a scam, point the thing at him and tell them to get the heck off your property.
It sounds like a scam to me also
Has anyone ever heard of a cancer research collector asking for bank details?
I had a guy at the front door asking for a donation, I offered him cash but he said he wasn't allowed to take cash donations but I could give him my bank details and it will be taken via direct debit, I told him I'd rather not and he left it at that.
Does anyone know if this was genuine or a scam as it sounds a lot like a scam to me.
