Moi and partner have been driving ford cars since the 1960s - reliable is the word.
Our latest is a Ford Kuga - designed for off road but we bought it because it's much easier to get in and out of, when you are in your 70s. and it still has a fair turn of speed, up to 150 MPH if you need it and very good acceleration.

Ours is a 1.6 cc diesel version. We don't do off road however, if we do get a snow bound winter, then we'll no longer be stuck in the driveway as has happened in the past. Instead, our Ford Kuga will automatically slip into 4x4 and simply drive down the road with the same capability of a Jeep (we hope).

Ray gave a good answer. Many families have more than one car. Company cars are a favourite perk.
Just like in most European countries, the cars are usually smaller than US. you find american brands like Ford, chrysler; german brands like BMW, Mercedes Audi, Volkswagen, Vauxhall;british brands like Rover, Jaguar; French brands like Peugeot, Renault, Citroen; Italian brands like Alfa Romeo and Fiat, Spanish brands like Seat; sweedish brands like Saab and a lot more.
Actually, most people in the UK do not drive.
