If you do not have them yet, suit case and/or backpack for the journey, toilet bag (make it a small one and fill it with sample size bottles for the journey,) travel guide book (best give series so people know what you want to have,) a telephone that will work there and enough money to pay for the use.
A travel guide book is probably the most useful thing you could get anyone.
