Bus options London to Edinburgh for a tour?

So what would you do in this situation?

I need to travel from London to Edinburgh. It's a 9 hour bus ride.

I can take an overnight bus standard for about £17.00 or a sleeper bus for £35.00 ... I arrive 7:15am and my tour departs 8:15am (1 hour later) which means more bus ride (and stopping in Iverness so it's going to be a long bus ride again).

Would you spend the extra money on a sleeper bus?

Would you walk, take a bus or take a taxi from the bus station to the tour company (Edinburgh bus station to The Royal Mile)? ... walking takes 11 minutes according to Google maps but says nothing about safety (I will have quite a bit of luggage)

My budget is stretched but is it worth the extra money?

Why don't you take a train from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. They run every 30 minutes and the journey takes only 4 hours 30 minutes. If you book well in advance for specifically timed trains there are some very cheap tickets available. Booking on this route starts 16 weeks before your journey

There is also a night sleeper train to Scotland from euston Station www.sleeper.scot

(The bus from London to Edinburgh actually takes 12 hours)

Unless you're desperately short of money, take a train to Edinburgh, not a bus. If you really have to take a bus then go for the sleeper, you will at least still feel human when you reach Edinburgh.

The bus station to Royal Mile is not a long walk and it's a perfectly safe route, but it is all uphill so if you have a lot of luggage you'd probably better take a taxi.

You can get a plane for 40-50 quid. Look it up.

Get a train!!
