Travel USA and Australia? ADVICE?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
When i turn 20 i want to travel the USA and Australia.

I just need to know what to do to do this, i'm thinking of taking a year to do them both but straight from Australia over to america.

I currently live in the UK.

Can some one give me tips on what i have to do and how much money i will need ect? thanks!!

you're so Lucky, they Give you VISAS easily !

Well i'm a pretty seasoned traveller, traversing from pretty much all of Europe, America, Asia and Australasia, so i can give you the best information i can. During my travels to Australia, i went to Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns and Alice Springs, destinations far apart in both geographical terms and lifestyle terms. During my travels in the USA i did 'the borat trip', starting in New York City and heading the southern state route, snaking my way up to California. I can tell you that both countries are very similar and dissimilar at the same time. Australia has arguably one of the BEST lifestyles in the world, due to it's outdoor, laid back lifestyle. I'm not sure if you are thinking of working during your year trip, but if you are i must warn you immediately that the pay in Australia is not so good, and my uncle, who works out there, has given me many warnings to get a good job if i am to move there too because the price value of everything from food to property is considerably higher than other places in the world. In America, when i went back in 2008, it was mostly OK, and i found no trouble working there during my 18 month tenure there, but since the economic decline, im not sure how easy it would be to find anything but a menial-paid job. By your question i would assume that you want help with the legalities of travelling there. Well the first thing you would want to do, before you commit to or buy ANYTHING is make a basic plan of what you are going to do. This plan does not have to be very detailed, it could even go down to one or two key things you want to achieve each month or each fortnight. This will help you assess the costs of all the entertainment you would have. After this, you would obviously need to check you have a valid passport and that you are legally able to travel. I know that getting into both Australia and America is pretty difficult if you have criminal convictions or anything of the sort. If you didn't know, replacement passports in the UK cost around £80, and they take approx. 3-4 weeks to arrive if there are no problems. However, if you are pushed for time, you can speed it up if you open your wallet to £130 or so. You would also need to make sure you get a Visa. As i said, i'm not sure if you plan to work during your travels, so the different types of visas, each with different costings, so i cannot really help you with that. You would need to research the different types of visas available for the countries and make your own decision. Once you have successfully got a passport and are ready to acquire your visa, i would start to prepare flights. As a general rule of thumb, the earlier you book flights, the cheaper, so start looking as early as you can to get a good deal. You cold of course wait til the last minute and use services like 'lastminute.com', however this is a risky gamble as you cannot always get a flight. Those are pretty much all of the legalities involved, and they are not expensive aslong as you prepare way in advance. Of course, the activities you do whilst traveling will add up, however, that is down to you how much you are willing to spend. Bear in mind that in the main cities, prices are often 'bumped up' for tourists, especially if they don't know the exchange rate, so either travel with a local or have a firm stance when purchasing in markets or touristy shops. I hope you have a good trip.

You will only get 90 days in the USA. Australia will let you in for a year on a working holiday visa but the USA limits it to 90m days and you can't work while you're there.

Pre plan , if you have a rough plan is great you don't have to strictly stick to the plan but you have some advice . If your looking in where to go in america , you have to do Route 66 , New York and California , not so sure about Australia though good look hope you have a good time ! ;)

You should join me on my adventure. You'll be traveling for free and you'll get to go to many places. It's called being a pirate, but you dont have to be a pirate if you dont want to.
