Should I move to Argentina?

Do you have a university degree? Do you have UK citizenship yet? If not, I would try to get those first before leaving the UK since you've been living there all that time - you should qualify for cheap UK tuition and also citizenship, I would think. Those will both open up a lot more opportunities for you. UK citizenship would allow you to work in Spain, as an EU citizen, where I think you might make more money than in Argentina. Americans and other non-Europeans find it very difficult to work in the EU, so you would have an advantage there (less competition from American & Canadian teachers). Of course Spain is going through an economic crisis, so maybe the market for English teachers isn't the best there now - I don't know the situation. You might also consider Chile - they always have a strong economy. If you want to make much better money, get a regular job as a teacher in a school. This will probably require a college degree (in education). Or teach English conversation in Korea, Japan or Taiwan - also requires a university degree (doesn't have to be education - any degree is fine). For the really big bucks (well, maybe $60k/year, tax free?) - get a master's degree in linguistics and then go teach English in one of the rich oil countries like Kuwait or Saudi. Good luck!

I would say that after you complete your a levels and tefl course just get a few more lessons on english then when you know that your english is fluet move to argentina because you cant find many jobs in the uk its really packed you should move you would have a nice life as a english teacher and plus you will be away from the stress in the uk!

Hi,

it depends a lot on what city/state of Argentina you want to move in, Buenos Aires can be quite expensive..I honestly wont move here from UK, life quality is a lot better there, also you′ll probably get a better salary in Europe whether UK or other country, the expenses here change every 2-3 months due to the inflation. Not telling you to bring you down just to give you a perspective.

I would recommend you if even like that you′ll like to move here, to get the UK citizenship before you leave.

Kind Regards!

Hola,

you should have no problems finding a job as an English teacher in Argentina. However, keep in mind that the pay in general is a lot lower than in the UK, and especially English teachers make very little money.

Good luck.

I was born in Argentina but moved away in 2001. This is my 10th year living in England and I've completed primary school and secondary all in England and have 12 GCSE's (more than average and none below a C, A in English Literature and A in English Language ). Currently in Sixth Form and doing A levels in English literature, history, psychology and business studies. I'm planning to move back to Argentina when I complete my A levels, plus a TEFL course. I can also speak Spanish fluently and confidently but it is weaker than my English, however I think it will improve once I'm out there. Do you think with those qualifications I will be able to get a good job teaching English, granted that I probably will need to gather some experience first? How much could I possible earn per month? How much would I need to earn in order to maintain a fairly comfortable life? I already own a house out there so that's not an expense I'm worried about.

Look forward to hearing anyone's advice, thanks!
