Colombia is a great country! It has amazing cities, people and gorgeous places to visit. People is also very kind and welcoming, and it's not an expensive country.
If you like warm weathers you can go to Medellin (gorgeous city) where it's spring all year round or Bucaramanga. for cooler weathers I'd choose Bogotá, and for hot weathers Barranquilla, Cartagena or Santa Marta. I really prefer Bogotá foryou living as it is really big, and has lots of museums, theaters, malls, etc. It also has most of the best universities of the country and the offices of most of the important companies. It's a good enviroment for bussiness (but so it is Medellin), and has most of the best restaurants in the country.
Bogotá has an important gastronomical offer, it also has many cultural activities and lots of great bars.
if you are thinking of moving to Bogotá, the middle-class high-class neighboorhoods are located in the north (mostly usaquen and the north of chapinero.. teusaquillo is also a good option). You can look in the west too. Medellin's greatest homes are located south (el poblado and envigado) .
Downtown Bogotá has a colonial atmosphere and there you'll find museums, la casa de nari?o (presidential palace), the justice palace, the altas cortes (supreme court of justice, constitucional court, etc) and many universities, as well as great restaurants and lot of historical places.
You dont have to worry about security, as no one is going to kidnap you, and there are no bombs or stuff as many people think. You migh, however, be aware that as in every big city there are robbers so you have to be careful.

I don't know UK but i can tell you that Colombia is a really good country to live. You can live in any weather you want because colombia is near the equator so it has the termic floors instead of seasons.
If you want to live in a warlm place then go to cities like cartagena, barranquilla or santa marta. It is a little bit cold in bogota or medellin.
The people here is very friendly and nice.
Bogota has the fourth place in america in terms of cheap dwelling so it is esay to live in this city. Also, it is going to have one of the best airports in this continent. They are remodeling it.
You have not to worry about your security. They are not going to kidnap you or something like that, it has almost dissapeard in the majority of the country since like 10 years ago. In Bogota of course you must be cautious when walking in the street (like in any city there are robbers). You have only to "no dar papaya" like we say here that means to not give the opportunity to some robber to rob you but in general terms Bogota is a very secure city.
I don't know what else to describe to you but the conlusion is that colombia is a very good country :)
