Get out of North America! Go overseas, teach English, get a bar tending job, work on a fruit picking farm in Australia and have a visa to stay and make good money, go to Thailand and become a scuba diving instructor, go to Fiji Islands and volunteer in a resort and they will put you up in a beach bungalow and feed you and you'll forget about money...it's all really not that hard!
I know it sounds crazy and impossible to afford, but it really isnt! Millions of people who felt just like you, are doing those very things right now! You're not alone, my friend...the only thing you need to do is sell all of your "crap" aka your furniture, your old car, etc. and just buy a flight one way. Then take it day by day. You will never regret it. Backpacker hostels are cheap way of living unless you end up loving a place so much you wanna stay for a while and then finding a shared apartment with other travelers doing the same exact thing is easy! You'll meet all kinds of interesting people, see all kinds of amazing places, and you'll wonder why everyone back home just stays there and never leaves to experience the endless possibilities of the world...
I did it. I got sick of my montonous daily job routine, I left, I explored, I settled in a few places for a year or two at a time, learned a couple new languages, and made enough money to keep that lifestyle going for 7 years now. I graduated with a massive student loan debt in the States and was able to make enough money teaching English to people in different countries, that I could send some money home to start chipping away at that burden. I'd recommend you get yourself a TEFL certificate, as it holds a lot of weight when you'll be roaming the streets of random countries looking for a job, and helped me out BIG time in the long run. I got mine from www.myTEFL.net and I would definitely recommend it - it was pretty cheap, quick to finish, relatively easy to pass, and was extremely helpful when I actually stepped into a classroom, as it taught me a lot stuff I didn't know, and they had an excellent customer service support team that guided me when looking for the right kind of place to work!
