If you want to see the ancient stuff, then the best cities are Luxor and Aswan, they're full of ancient stuff.
Of course you may want to see the pyramids. But Cairo isn't that nice. The only places where you can see ancient stuff in Cairo is the pyramids and the Egyptian museum (chances are, cairo isn't that safe. The Egyptian museum lies right next to Tahrir square where protests are usually held)
So yeah, apparently, Luxor and Aswan. And Cairo for only one day to see the Pyramids.
Now, back to the other cool things.
It'd have to be; Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada or Taba, where there are magnificent coral formations in the red sea, night clubs and parties all day long (Prima Life)

I went about 20 years ago and it was pretty nice. Now days I'd be a little scared to go though. To much civil unrest and its very politically unstable.
If you avoid Cairo and go to Sharm el Sheik there is loads to do! I loved it so much I went twice.
