You should decide if you prefer very warm weather or cool. Almost a cold climate. Guayaquil is on the sea coast and the temperature can reach the 90s most days. Today it was 91. Quito- the capital is at 9200 ft (more than twice the altitude of Denver Colorado) and the temperature was in the 50s.Ecuador has no seasons (it is on the equator). I have known people who have visited Quito and never realized that in spite of being on the equator the climate can be very cold.

Ecuador is a very beautiful country and I strongly recommend to go there for your vacation. You will visit of course the capital Quito where you will be flying in. Get a hotel in either "Mariscal" (part of Quito) or in the Old Town.

You should also visit (depending on your time frame) the town of Otavalo (largest indigenous market in South America), Cuenca, Banos, and mountain biking on Mt. Cotopaxi.

You can find hotels at either www.letsbookhotel.com, or if you are on a budget stay at a hostel (this is usually more fun since you will meet tons of young people from all over the world. You can hook up with them and go sightseeing, etc.). Hostels should be booked through either: www.hostelbookers.com, www.hostelworld.com, or www.hostels.com. They pretty much all offer the same hostels. Hostels in Ecuador in a dorm will cost you about between $ 7.00 and $ 15.00/night, and most of them include breakfast.

All I can tell you is there are places you sould not miss, if you have time visit them all. No particular order just off the top of my head. now remember with out knowing more about your interests I am just generalizing..

If you are planing or driving and you have time the Ruta Del Sol is nice, also drive to Cotopaxi Vocano

While you are driving back be shure to stop at various towns which you will fing a different specialty of that town, bisquets , ice cream , candies home made, fruits stands and more fruits stands, emanadas (small town between porteviejo to quevedo , eat fritada anywhere in the coast , fish , shrimps around beaches and ports along the ocean coast, trout any where in the mountains ,any way hope that helps.....Ren

I'm planning to travel to Ecuador next year heard from some friends that is a beautiful place but want some opinions before to choose where to go or booking an hotel room. At first planned to go on some kind of tour but didn't find any attractive tour. Appart form that I don't like schedules.

Please, recomend me somewhere to go if you where there before what city do you recommend me to visit, which one of the hotels in town will be the best. I don't want a 5 stars trip, I prefer something simple.
