Happiest people in the world?

Some studies say Denmark... hmmm.... I don't know, I've never been there.

But I have spent time on travel forums, reading many posts by people who've traveled to many countries. And what I remember is that people raved about IRAN, of all countries, and said that they are the friendliest people they've ever met.

Another country mentioned was BURMA.... again, of all places!

Both countries have brutal, totalitarian regimes, and not a lot of freedom. Yet the people are happy?

Also, I've seen studies that say people in Latin America (and the Philippines?) are the happiest in the world, and this seems right to me based on the people I've met from these countries....

But again, these are all poor, corrupt, violent countries... so why are the people so happy?

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Anyone been to these countries? Or Denmark?

I am half danish and half filipino, born and raised in Denmark.

The happiness index has been measured on parameters such as safety, stability and trust

The danish government is transparent and trustworthy, danes feel that they can trust their government and up to 70% of respondents feel that they can trust strangers. Stability is also very high. High tax rates which people generally point out, does not affect happiness. Using those parameters for happiness i can tell for certain that a country like the Philippines isn't happy.

Members of Philippine govenrment are corrupt, dangerous, thieving, greedy and in it to fill their own pockets. People cannot even trust their own families and a general crab mentality is common throughout. The war on terror in the Philippines is possibly the longest ongoing conflict and instability is everywhere.

COSTA RICA is actually considered the happiest country in the world. The people are so friendly and nice. The place is BEAUTIFUL and the beaches are really nice. Cocos Island(belongs to CR) is amazingly gorgeous. Costa Rica and the Cocos Island are considered a treasure.

My girlfriends father is from Iran. And your right, he really is one of the nicest happiest people I know. He skypes with his family back home and the all look very happy people too.

it works well when you just laugh off all your problems. people from those countries mentioned aren't that materialistic i think. being with their families and friends is enough to somehow temporarily forget their worries
