You look black mix with Asian. You look lighter then most black people so in countries with many gypsies they think that people who look darker even some southern Europeans are gypsies. You can't blame them, because people who live with gypsies have enough of it. But I travel a lot and people are generally ignorant about geography, so just talk to them, and they will be nice to you.
Balkan people think every dark skinned person is gypsy ..They are very obsessed but since you speak foreign language they would not assume u are a gypsy i guess ..

I have to admit many people in eastern Europe do not like to see outsiders coming over. Not sure why exactly but they want to keep their tiny countries for their own nationality.
They had ethnic people in these countries in the old Soviet days but most were just passing through for a few years, going to school here and then returning home.
If you are just a tourist, I wouldn't worry too much as long and you are not walking alone in a backwards village , cities are safe and groups are safe.
We heard of a Hungarian women getting beat up by 4 guys in the Czech republic because she was speaking Hungarian.
We traveled by car in Romania with Hungarian plates on our car and a few cars tried to run us off the road. Everyone over in this part of the world seems to hate each other picking on an ethnic person is not unheard of but doesn't happen often either.
I am Slav and German with Native American, even my dentists have something strange to say about my looks, I have "Native" teeth, curved shaped and very large and healthy teeth. They love my teeth but I am not used to people coming over and taking pictures of them! They sometimes say and do racist things in this part of the world without even knowing it, just enjoy the adventure and don't listen to haters.
I am not a gypsy but from a country where dumb western europeans call us "gypsies" (bulgaria). And...why would it be wrong to be gypsy? You sound racist.
To answer the question: You look slightly gypsy but not "typical"...it depends. Perhaps "dirty look" = they actually "check you out"?? Or maybe you just seem foreign to them since countries like the czech republic have very low % of other races. In any case you don't look bad at all, don't worry.
